Robert "Bob" Hymel

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – With deep love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Hymel, who peacefully entered into eternal rest, surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, the 5th of August 2026, at the age of 90.

Bob was born in 1935, in Garyville, Louisiana. One of 13 children, he grew up in a close-knit family where faith, hard work, and love of family shaped his life. He was proud of his heritage, his father's German roots and his mother's Canary Islander ancestry, and remained deeply connected to south Louisiana throughout his life.

As a young man, Bob was well known as a talented boxer. He earned his degree from Louisiana State University in 1958 before becoming a Certified Public Accountant. Believing education opened doors, he encouraged each of his children to pursue higher education and set an example that continues through future generations.

Bob shared 67 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Anne Boudreaux Hymel. Anne often said she first noticed Bob while watching him play baseball in High School. Later, while they were dating, she would sit ringside and watch him spar at the boxing gym. Bob and Anne were long-time members of the Sarape Club in Brownsville and loved to dance. They also loved traveling in their RV. Together they built a home filled with faith, laughter, music, and unconditional love.

Bob's Catholic faith was the foundation of his life. He was most recently a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Brownsville. His faith was reflected not only in church attendance but also in the kindness, humility, generosity, and quiet strength with which he lived each day.

In 1971, Bob moved his family to Texas, where he established an accounting practice serving the shrimping industry. Through integrity, hard work, and sound judgment, he earned the respect of his clients and the community he served.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Anne; his five children, Mona (Florian), Robby (Marissa), Peggy (Israel), Amy (Art), and Arthur (Melanie). He was the son of the late Lydia Plaisance Hymel and Arthur Joseph Hymel, and brother of Kenneth Hymel, Cynthia Schaubhut, Linda Haydel, Timothy Hymel, and the late Gertrude Jacob, Hazel Michel, Clyde Hymel, Kermit Hymel, Betty Duhe Ramagos, Elmire Vicknair, Vera Aucoin, and Mike Hymel. He was the proud grandfather of Rebecca, Andrea, Steffen, Marshall, Malcolm, Patrick, Rachel, Andrew, James, Anne, Sarah, Lucas, and Joshua and was also blessed with many beloved great-grandchildren.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing that his legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply. He will be loved forever.
