Rosalia P. Zayas

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Rosalia P. Zayas, 93, of Brownsville, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, the 19th of July 2026, surrounded by her four children.

Rosalia was born to Gumersindo and Mercedes Perez. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sisters, Frances Saenz (Carlos) and Gloria Garcia (Urbano). She is survived by her sister, Sylvia L. Perez; her four children, Dr. Joe D. Zayas (Kathy), Delpha Randazzo (Terry), Sandy Ramon Tarbet (Brian), and Richard Zayas (Sandra); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was a proud grandmother to Marissa, Joseph, Danielle, Lauren, Taylor, Melissa, Melanie, Adrian, Ricky, Tyler, and Olivia, and a loving great-grandmother to Violet, Harlee, Abigail, Townes, and Zephyr.

A dedicated educator, Rosalia devoted 33 years to teaching first grade. Known affectionately as the family’s “Phonics Queen,” she took special joy in helping her grandchildren succeed and celebrating her students’ accomplishments.

An avid traveler, she explored destinations across the United States and around the world, often sharing adventures with her sisters. She was also a proud supporter of the Brownsville community and was actively involved in local arts, Charro Days, BARSEA, and the Mr. Amigo Association.

Above all, Rosalia’s greatest pride was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend whose unwavering love, encouragement, and support touched countless lives. She loved gathering family and friends for holidays, celebrations, and simple moments together. Her laughter, warmth, and generosity made everyone feel welcome.

Rosalia’s legacy of kindness, faith, service, laughter, and love will live on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always cherished.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, the 23rd of July 2026 between the hours of five o'clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to be recited at seven o'clock Thursday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 24th of July 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville.
