Rosario Flores Cavazos

Mrs. Rosario F. Cavazos, 82, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend entered into the glory of her eternal life on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, at Brownsville Nursing and Rehab Center in Brownsville.

Rosario was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville. She touched the lives of countless of children in our community as a teacher and counselor with the BISD for 30 years. After retirement, Rosario enjoyed attending the meetings for BARSEA (Brownsville Area Retired School Employees Assoc.).

A devout Catholic, she was a parishioner at St. Luke's and later St. Mary's. Rosario was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Rosario loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed baking and sewing. She enjoyed listening to music and loved to sing along. Rosario was the Matriarch of her family. She had a great love for Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was especially proud of her birthday being on the Day of the Rosary. She lived Christ's example in her daily life. Rosario was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by her family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known her.

Rosario is preceded in death by a son, David Joseph Cavazos and her parents, Maria de la Luz and Jesus Refugio Flores.

Rosario is survived by her ex-husband, Sigifredo L. Cavazos and her children: Cynthia A. Cavazos, James E. Cavazos, Sandra E. (Mohammed Elgedawy) Cavazos, and Christina M. Cavazos; 3 grandchildren: Stephanie, Austin, and Ryan and 1 great-grandson, Kaiser; along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and other extended family members.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, and continue through 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser. The Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 29, 2018, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brownsville, Texas. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens.
