Ruben Jose Rodriguez, Sr.

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Ruben Jose Rodriguez, Sr., retired counselor, psychologist, and entrepreneur, entered into eternal rest on Monday, the 24th of April 2023 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas due to complications of cancer. He was seventy-two years of age.

Ruben was born in Brownsville, Texas on October 3, 1950, son of Guadalupe S. Rodriguez and Florentina Castro Rodriguez. He attended El Jardin Elementary, Central Junior High, and graduated from Hanna High School. Ruben went on to attend Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas, where he obtained his Master of Education in Psychology, Sociology, and Administration. Aside from serving as a counselor, Ruben was also a business consultant, political advisor, and an avid golfer.

Preceding Ruben in death was his son, Ruben "Chacho" Jose Rodriguez Jr.; and his parents, Guadalupe S. Rodriguez and Florentina Castro Rodriguez.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Sylvia Ann Longoria Rodriguez; his daughters, Sofia Lorena Rodriguez and Rachel Renée Rodriguez; his siblings Maria del Rosario Lockaby, Erasmo Rodriguez (Belinda), Diana Morrison (Luis), Norma Castillo (Frank), Delia Mendoza (Fidencio), Oralia Hernandez, Sylvia Lopez (Ismael), and Domitila Vasquez (Silverio); in addition to numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, the 27th of April 2023 between the hours of twelve noon and nine o'clock at night, with a recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Thursday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 28th of April 2023 at the historic Immaculate Conception Cathedral, 1218 E. Jefferson Street, Brownsville. Cremation will immediately follow the mass. Inurnment will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 29th of April 2023 at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard.
