Sheryl "Nani" Hankey Sarytchoff

BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Sheryl “Nani” Hankey Sarytchoff, of Brownsville, Texas, died on Monday, the 3rd of November 2025. She was 74 years of age.

Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Sheryl moved to Brownsville in the early 1980s with her husband Tom. Here, they started their family and a tax accountancy business, Tom W. Sarytchoff, PC. Sheryl was the heart and soul of the company, known for her laugh and infectious spirit. Still, she often said the best job she ever had was being a mom and grandma. Sheryl was an avid reader and could often be found with a book or e-book in hand, frequently while relaxing in the swimming pool or cuddled up in bed with Wesley, her self-named partner in crime. She loved traveling, particularly to Las Vegas where she defied odds and came home a winner nearly every trip. Sheryl and Tom ingrained this love of travel in their daughters via frequent family road trips across the country.

Sheryl was a true friend to all and loved sharing conversation with her friends and family. In recent years, Sheryl resumed her hobby of sewing, embroidery, and quilting. She delighted in making gifts to brighten others’ days. Sheryl was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the San Jacinto Descendants. Sheryl’s family would like to extend their deepest, heartfelt thanks to her caregivers, who not only cared for her but also befriended her, including Ciara Perez, Josh, Irma, Cynthia, and Sarai, among many others.

Preceding Sherly in death are her father, Fred T. Hankey, Jr.; her mother, Neta Joy Hankey; her sister, Carol; and her brother, Tommy.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Tom; her daughters, Cat and Sheryl Anne; her son-in-law, Joseph Friedman; her grandson, Wesley Sarytchoff; her sister, Lynn Ramirez; and her nephews, Cody and Zeb.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, the 8th of November 2025 between the hours of ten o'clock in the morning and twelve noon, with a Chapel Service to commence at twelve noon within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville.

In lieu of floral arrangements and customary remembrances, the family requests contributions in her memory be directed to Kenmont Montessori School, 2734 N. Coria Street, Brownsville, Texas 78520, (956) 542-0500, (www.kenmontschool.com), which has nurtured and guided Wesley’s growth and inspires leadership and community in all their students.
