BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Sylvia Solis Lopez passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, the 10th of August 2025, in Brownsville, Texas. She was 65 years of age. Sylvia was born on the 26th of December 1959, and lived a life
A proud graduate of Villa Maria High School, Sylvia earned her degree from Texas Southmost College and Pan American University, graduating Cum Laude. She dedicated 42 years of service to the Brownsville Independent School District (BISD), touching countless lives as an educator. Sylvia taught at Porter High School for 10 years, Pace High School for 24 years, and Veterans Memorial High School for eight years. She also served as Math Department head for 10 years. Her lifelong commitment to education left an enduring legacy in the hearts and minds of her students.
Sylvia was married to her high school sweetheart, Joey Lopez, for 38 years, and together they raised three daughters. She gave back generously to her community through service with Saint Mary’s Ministries, Catholic Daughters, the Brownsville Junior Service League, and as an elected School Board Trustee for South Texas ISD.
Preceding Sylvia in death was her beloved father, Alfredo Solis.
Sylvia leaves behind her devoted husband, Joey Lopez; her daughters, Daniella Lopez Valdez (Hector), Denisa Lopez Narvaez (Adan), and Danika Lopez Bigger (Brett); her cherished grandchildren, Luca and Amaya Valdez; her loving mother, Maria Concepcion “Connie” Solis; her sisters, Cindy Saldaña (Mike) and Sandra Pope (William); her nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Dulce Blue.
Sylvia’s memory will be carried forward by all whose lives she touched. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, tireless dedication to education, and boundless love for her family.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, the 13th of August 2025 between the hours of three o'clock in the afternoon and nine o’clock at night, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o’clock Wednesday evening within the church.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at twelve noon on Thursday, the 14th of August 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. All services will conclude at the church.
Honorary pallbearers include her daughters and nieces, Daniella Lopez Valdez, Denisa Lopez Narvaez, Danika Lopez Bigger, Marcella Saldaña, Gigi Saldaña, and Ana Lauren Pope.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all family and friends for their unwavering love and support.
