Sylvia Gonzales Perez

Sylvia Perez entered eternal rest on Friday, August 3, 2018, at the age of 83. Sylvia was born on the family ranch near Las Yescas in Cameron County, Texas to Manual Gonzales and Lucilla Garza Gonzales.

After graduating from Rio Hondo High School in 1951, she enrolled at Texas Southmost College in Brownsville and later graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1959. She returned home to begin her teaching career. She retired after 30 years of service.

Sylvia was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In 1961, she came to teach in Brownsville and met "the love of her life" Hesiquio Perez. They married the following summer in Rio Hondo on July 7th, 1962. They recently celebrated 57 years of marriage.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Gonzales and Lucilla Garza Gonzales, her sister Olivia Gonzales, her brother Ricardo Gonzales (Felicita), her sister Tomasa Gracia (Joe RIP), and her brother Conrado Gonzales (Mercedes RIP).

Sylvia is survived by her loving husband, Hesiquio Perez, her son, Enrique M. Perez, her daughter Lucilla Perez (Otis J. Bouwsma), her grandchildren Christopher M. Laird, Mark M. Perez, and Allyson L. Perez, her sisters Edna Tamayo (Ed RIP) and Marcela Montalvo (Rene RIP).

Visitation will be held at Darling Mouser Funeral Home on Thursday, August 9, 2018 from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 10, 2018 at St. Luke Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Drive. Committal services will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park, 26170 State Highway 345, San Benito Texas, 78586.

Pallbearers include Christopher M. Laird, Homer Gonzales, Justin Gonzales, Anastacio Cavazos Jr., Rene Montalvo and Conrad Gonzales. Honorary Pallbearers include Zachary T. Scott Bouwsma and Daniel Jose Gracia.
