Valeska June Rodman

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Valeska June Rodman passed away on Wednesday, the 26th of November 2025 in Brownsville, Texas. She was 94 years of age. Born in Sparta, Illinois, she was the ninth of 10 children born to the late Thomas Underwood Dudley Rodman and Violet Valeska Rodman.

The family later moved to Salem, Illinois, where Valeska graduated from high school. During high school, she worked at a soda fountain in the local drug store and learned the great life lesson that you NEVER EVER scoop ice with a glass.

In the 1950’s, her parents retired to Brownsville, Texas and she soon followed. Valeska worked for a gas company and an insurance company prior to working for El Centro Grocery. She retired from the grocery store as office manager and head bookkeeper. She loved her years working for the store and the many people she met and those who became friends

Valeska’s lifelong companion, James Schreiber, preceded her in death. Valeska was a wonderful loving aunt to 29 nieces and nephews, six of whom preceded her in death. She also loved the many members of the Schreiber family that treated her with love and kindness.

Valeska had a great sense of humor and loved sharing family stories. She enjoyed traveling, visiting family, reading, going to the beach and working the daily paper’s crossword puzzle.
