Vernon Franklin Skipper

Vernon F. Skipper, 80, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas.

Skipper, as he was affectionately known, was born in Tallahassee, Florida. Skipper was a proud veteran having served in the US Army. He came to Brownsville in 1960. Skipper owned and operated Skipper Plumbing for over 50 years. In his spare time, Skipper was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and being with his family. Skipper was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known him.

Skipper was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Skipper; 2 sons: Vernon F. Jr. and Gerald L. Skipper; his parents and 5 siblings.

Skipper is survived by 4 children: Rhonda (Kyle) Walton, Patricia A. (David Guajardo) Skipper, Wallace Skipper, and Sharon E. (David) Davila; 10 grandchildren: Shanna Skipper, Jessica Schlegel, Geralynne Solitaire, Noalle Skipper, Jordan Thomas Skipper, John Skipper, Lauren Skipper, Gabriella Guajardo, Tristen Davila and Taryn Davila; 3 great-grand-children: Laci Moreno and Raelee and Grayson Schlegel; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser, with a prayer service scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018 in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Committal services will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. The VFW Funeral Honor Guard will render military honors at the graveside.

David Davila, Richard "Boogie" Bennett, J.J. Altamirano, Javy Vega, Carlos Solitaire, and Jordan Thomas Skipper are honored to be serving as Skipper's pallbearers. Tristen Davila, David Guajardo Jr., Charlie Bennett, Eulus Gardner, Leonard Loop, Randy Davis and Cris Ortiz will serve as honorary pallbearers.
