BROWNSVILLE, TX. - William “Bill” A. Pausewang passed away in Brownsville, Texas on Wednesday, the 10th of May 2023 at the age of eighty-six. Bill was born August 12, 1936 in Holland, Texas, son of the late Andrew and Louise Pausewang.

Bill grew up in Texas and joined the United States Air Force at a young age and was station with the 55th Field Maintenance Squadron at Forbes AFB in Topeka, Kansas. This is where he met Celia Handley and married in October 1956 and had three children. They later divorced in 1976. He then met Jan Alberg and married September 21, 1985 along with her two young children.

Bill became a firefighter with the Topeka Fire Department in 1959 and retired as “Captain” in 1989 after thirty years of service. He loved being a firefighter and the lifelong friends he made within the department. Being a firefighter is a big part of who he was. In 1989, he and his wife moved to Brownsville, Texas to enjoy family and retirement.

He enjoyed boating, camping, bowling and golfing, but his passion for fishing was known by all who loved him. Anything from tournaments, or with family, to remote fishing trips in Canada with his friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his wonderful wife, Jan Pausewang; two sons, Douglas Pausewang and Dale Pausewang both of Wichita, Kansas; a daughter, Vannette Shunk (Jeff) of Horton, Kansas; two step-children, Nicole (Bill) Curtis of Flower Mound, Texas and JT (Kim) Head of Brownsville, Texas; four grandchildren Jocelyn, Kara, Audrey, and Lucas of Texas; and brother, Kenneth Pausewang of Taylor, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Louise Pausewang; his brother, A.J. Pausewang; and by his Aunt Hattie of Texas.

Bill was a strong man, loving husband and a wonderful father and will be greatly missed!
