BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Alwin C. von Ohlen entered into eternal rest on Sunday, the 10th of October 2021 in Brownsville, Texas at the age of eighty-four.
Alwin was born on March 11, 1937 in Aurora, Illinois, son of Carl von Ohlen and Helen Marie Miller von Ohlen. He attended Bardwell Elementary and East Aurora High School, later enlisting in the United States Army, where he actively served from June 22, 1956 to April 4, 1958 before entering the Army Reserves until April 4, 1962. Alwin was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Confederate Air Force (CAF) and in his spare time, attended motorcycle rallies and enjoyed rebuilding cars. One could always find Alwin working on cars, from buying junked cars, to rebuilding them for resale. He was willing to teach anyone about his cars.
Preceding Alwin in death was his son, Herman C. von Ohlen; his parents, Carl von Ohlen and Helen Marie Miller von Ohlen; and sisters, June Smith and Marie Schradel. He was also preceded in death by his parrot Loretto, and his horse Macho Man.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Beatriz R. von Ohlen; children Mary H. von Ohlen, Michael von Ohlen, Patricia Mitchell, and David L. von Ohlen; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Also surviving him is his beloved canine Chula (who is with mom).
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, the 17th October 2021, between the hours of four o’clock in the afternoon and eight o’clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o’clock in the evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Monday, the 18th of October 2021 at Saint Luke Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Drive, Brownsville. Committal services will follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.
